The Kazaa Media Desktop client could be downloaded free of charge however, it was bundled with adware and for a period there were "No spyware" warnings found on Kazaa's website. Kazaa Media Desktop was commonly used to exchange MP3 music files and other file types, such as videos, applications, and documents over the Internet. According to one of its creators, Jaan Tallinn, Kazaa is pronounced "ka-ZAH" ( / k ə ˈ z ɑː/). Kazaa was subsequently under license as a legal music subscription service by Atrinsic, Inc., which lasted until August 2012. and operated as Kazaa by Sharman Networks.

Kazaa Media Desktop (once stylized as " KaZaA", but later usually written " Kazaa") was a peer-to-peer file sharing application using the FastTrack protocol licensed by Joltid Ltd.

Although I haven't tested the Kazaa download manager, my impression is that it does function quite well and it is worth considering if you are going to use a free download manager. Kazaa is great for uploading large files and checking the details of any given file. The Fosharing software allows one to browse through all the files and check for viruses before downloading them. On the other hand Kazaa is great for anyone wanting to explore the benefits of a Java plugin but without having to learn another language like Java.īoth services are available for free under the Fosharing website which allows anyone to create an account and upload files to their server. Overall though I can see that Fslite is a much better choice for people who don't need the advanced features of Fslite or those of a larger file size and simply need to share a smaller number of files with friends and colleagues. Kazaa also claims to be twice as fast as Fslite and therefore better value for money. One major difference between Kazaa and Fslite is that Fslite requires a Java plugin to work whereas Kazaa Lite runs on the same basic features of Windows. All I have ever needed from them was a fast connection to the Internet and great customer service. Kazaa states that they have "no technical support" for Fslite on Windows however with over a thousand files sent to my house on a daily basis and hundreds of friends sending files, I am yet to have the need to actually get technical support from them. Fslite is the backend software for this service and is available in many flavours of Windows as well as some flavours of Linux. The service is available for both Windows and Linux operating systems. Kazaa Lite from Kazaa is a relatively new service which aims to combine file sharing, file compression and online access all into one package.
